Kinship Editor

The KinshipEditor program is a simple editor for entering genealogical data in the form of a fairly traditional kinship diagram. It can render all or part of the diagram as an image for inclusion in papers, slides etc. The output file is an XML dialect that saves data in a form discussed by the author in "Applications in Computing for Social Anthropologists", Routledge, 1994, Chapters 6 and 7. This is similar to the form defined by P-Graphs (See White). This is fairly easy to transform into other forms. Examples of the Kinship Editor and transforming its output into pass and active forms are online in the Experience Rich Anthropology site at

The program is open source and available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/kinshipeditor.
